In the neutral Rocky Mountain States, Juliana and Joe grow closer as Juliana gets a job in a local diner, and meets a mysterious man who informs her of the contents of a King James Bible in a local bookshop. Back in the Japanese Pacific States, Frank is tortured and interrogated by the Japanese Occupation military police who want to know Juliana's whereabouts. Tagomi and Wegener converse about the imminent death of Adolf Hitler and the power struggle that will engulf the Reich when this happens.
